FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Officials in western Ghor province on Sunday said the Taliban have stopped distribution of the National Food Programme (NFP) in two districts.
Hameedullah Azeemi, in-charge of the NFP, said the Taliban through a letter asked the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) to stop the NFP in the province.
“The Taliban asked NFP officials in 17 district to halt the programme. Some Taliban in Shahrak and Tawlak districts had stopped the NFP workers from distributing foods,” he added.
Tawlak District Chief Sulaiman Yousufi, efforts are underway to ensure the distribution of food in less fortunate people but still there was no breakthrough.
He asked concerned officials to take step to resolve the problem.
Ghor Provincial Council Head Mohammad Mahdavi said: “I want the Taliban to at least have mercy on our poor people, our poor people are desperate for food.”
Abdul Wahid, the resident of Shahrak district said: “The Taliban are aggressive as usual on us. We want them not to create hurdle in the distribution of food to us.”
The Taliban Spokesperson Qari Yousuf Ahmadi acknowledged the halt of NFP and said the scheme could not heal the wounds of people.
