NEILI (Pajhwok): A woman has opened the first-ever pastry factory in this capital city of central Daikundi province.
SurayaAmiri, the founder of the factory and a resident of Neili, told Pajhwok Afghan News that fifteen types of sweets and cookies were baked in her factory. She said the factory was established with support of the UN Women to help women become self-reliant.
Suraya said the UN women in 2020 had announced small business projects for women entrepreneurs and her proposed pastry factory was accepted.
She said she had employed six other women in the factory and that the employment had a positive impact on their lives.
“We are committed to increasing our products based on the demand and deliver them to shopkeepers,” Suraya added.
She did not comment on the cost and capacity of the factory for a single day’s production.
Sumaya, a girl working in the factory, told Pajhwok Afghan News, “I am very happy to be able to learn baking sweets and cakes. I also earn an amount of money; this way I am able to solve some of my problems.”
Gulsoom, another woman working in the factory, said such factories had a positive impact on women’s economy.
Benazir Jafary, director of women’s affairs, hailed Suraya’s effort and considered such opportunities as efficient for improvement of economic condition of women.
She said in recent years, Daikundi women’s presence had increased in all sectors as 58 women worked in the business sector.
Residents of Daikundi province also hailed the opening of the pastry factory and said they could now buy a variety of sweets and pastries with reasonable prices and high quality.
