KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): After two decades, the Spinghar Cooking Oil factory in northern Kunduz province has resumed production, an official said on Thursday.
Deputy Kunduz Governor Abdul Satar Mirzakwal while addressing a gathering said the Spinghar Cooking Oil Factory resumed its activities after twenty years.
He said that the technical machinery of the factory has been imported from the neighbouring Uzbekistan and the factory has initiated its test production.
The governor said the factory has started to produce sesame, flaxseed, sunflower and almond cooking oils.
He added the factory had 35 workers and produces around 20 tons of cooking oil in 24 hours.
“After the test production, around 600 individuals would be employed in the factory and it would result in an increased level of production,” he added.
Naqibullah, a Spinghar factory worker told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had been working in the factory for the past ten years but factory had no production.
“We used to come to the factory but we had nothing to do and now that the factory has resumed production; I am happy and I hope for our salaries to be increased,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Spinghar cooking oil factory was initially established in 1935 under the name, Shamali Shirkat and then was renamed to Spinghar in 1959.
The factory’s main functions are to buy cotton seeds from farmers and then produce cooking oil, soaps and oil cakes.
