KABUL (Pajhwok): The Pentagon says the United States has not yet taken any decision on military postures in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told journalists on Wednesday that no decision on a troop posture in Afghanistan had been made so far
Russian media outlet Sputnik quoted Kirby as affirming the Biden administration’s commitment to a political settlement in Afghanistan.
Ex-US president Donald Trump had initiated a cut in troop numbers in Afghanistan and Iraq to 2,500 troops each in his final two months in office.
Kirby said the defense secretary was assessing all options, but the best solution to the conflict in Afghanistan was a political settlement.
“We have long believed the political resolution is the best way forward and the secretary and the department are committed on that,” added the Pentagon spokesman.
