KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has strongly condemned the targeted killing of ulema, human rights defenders and thinkers across Afghanistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement on Saturday.

This comes as violence escalates following the start of peace talks between the government and The Taliban in Qatar.

Attacking civilians and shedding innocent peoples blood is against the teachings of all heavenly religions and universal law, according to the IUMS.

The Union called on all religious scholars of the Islamic world to condemn the continuation of war and bloodshed and to work on the ceasefire, end the war in Afghanistan in the light of the provisions of the Book of God Almighty and the prophetic tradition, and given the principles and foundations of Islamic law.

While welcoming the IUMS announcement in Qatar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the peace-loving and freedom –loving nations of the international community to continue their peaceful support by condemning the violence and killing of innocent people in Afghanistan.
