Married woman, mother shot dead in Sar-i-Pul

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A young woman and her mother have been shot dead in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Monday.

The young woman, who was forced to leave her home, and her mother were gunned down on their way home from the house of a local public representative in Gosfandi district.

Nabila Habibi, director of woman’s affairs in Sar-i-Pul, told Pajhwok Afghan News identified the 20-year-old woman as Farida, a resident of Gosfandi. The victim was forced to leave her home ten days ago as a result of a domestic dispute and beaten with the Kalashnikov butt.

The woman wanted to go to Sar-i-Pul, the provincial capital, but police arrested her at Sancharak port and sent her back to the district, Habibi said.

She added: “After we learned about the incident, we told district police that she should not be detailed without reason. We asked police to hand her over to a representative of the department of woman affairs in Gosfandi district.

She added that a few days later, a representative of the district’s women’s affairs department said she could not keep the woman at home for security reasons.

“We decided to transfer this woman to the local public representatives, and after staying for a few days at his house, she sought permission for going to her father’s house. Finally, she was handed over to her father.

But on the way to her house along with her mother, both were shot dead, the official explained.

The woman intended to go to Sar-i-Pul with her father via Mazar-i-Sharif to file a lawsuit against her husband.
