KABUL (Pajhwok): The US military suffered no combat fatality in Afghanistan in 2020, the Stars and Stripes reported.
For the first time during the last two decades, a year has passed since the last US service member was killed in combat in Afghanistan.
It was on Feb. 8, 2020 that last two US military personnel were killed in Afghanistan, the report said.
However, the military newspaper waned of an escalation in violence if the US kept its troops in Afghanistan in violation of last year’s peace deal with Taliban.
“We will definitely return to war” if the US breached the peace pact, signed on February 29, 2020, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid was quoted as saying.
The US agreed to withdraw troops in exchange for the Taliban preventing terrorist groups from using Afghan soil to attack foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The Biden administration has hinted at reviewing the agreement, which stipulates the pullout of all foreign forces from the country by May this year.
