KABUL (Pajhwok): A lawmaker from eastern Nangarhar province escaped unhurt in an armed attack on Monday. One of his guards was killed.
Wolesi Jirga member Amir Khan Yar came under attack on his way to Kabul in the morning, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.
President Ashraf Ghani vehemently denounced the assault as a crime unacceptable to his administration. He saw no justification for targeting patriotic public representatives.
The government once again reminded the Taliban that the use of brute force, terrorism and crimes did not offer any solution to the crisis in Afghanistan, the statement added.
Asking the insurgents to renounce the ongoing war, the president directed the security organs to chase the assailants and bring them to justice.
Ghani also extended his condolences to the legislator’s security guard killed in the attack and wished the injured speedy recovery.
