KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan National Army (ANA) commandos have released 42 inmates, including civilians, from a Taliban-run prison in northern Baghlan province, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Tuesday.
A statement from the ministry said the ANA commandos raided the Taliban prison in the Ali Khwaja area of Baghlan-i-Markazi district on Monday night.
As a result of the overnight operation, 17 civilians and 25 security personnel were freed, thee statement said, giving no further details.
General Mohammad Ali Yazdani, commander of the 217th Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News greed 17 civilians, 19 police personnel and six ANA soldiers from the prison.
He added the commando forces destroyed the Taliban jail. The Taliban, however, have not yet commented in this regard.
It is the second raid of by ANA commandos on a Taliban prison in Baghlan province.
