KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The imperative of peace and reconciliation was highlighted during an overnight poetry session in the volatile northern province of Kunduz.
Governor Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal, police chief Brig. Gen. Haq Nawaz Haqyar and a large number of poets and culturists attended the event in the provincial capital.
Many poets underlined the need for lasting peace and national reconciliation in the country, where violence continues to escalate despite peace talks between the government and the Taliban.
At the end of the mushaira, Governor Mirzakwal said: “I’m really pleased to see Kunduz youth sitting in an environment of peace here tonight…”
While seeking an immediate end to violence, the governor remarked: “This (poetry session) is indeed a step towards stability and I commend you for gathering here.”
Mirzakwal called for the Taliban to lay down their weapons and thereby enable the long-suffering Kunduz inhabitants to live in peace and prosperity.
