KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan’s Chambers Federation (ACF) on Saturday announced ending a 24-day-old strike, as some vehicles loaded with commercial goods started moving towards their destinations.
According to reports, hundreds of truck drivers and transport companies had been striking against extortion on highways and had asked the government to resolve their issues.
“The ACF remains engaged with the Ministry of Transport on difference of opinion over the management of land transport and subsequently this difference led to the stoppage of land transport in the ports and resulted in skyrocketing the prices of essential items in the markets,” ACF said in a statement.
As a result of untiring ACF efforts, the deadlock came to an end and the issue was resolved, thus all truckers had been asked to resume their operation and hoped that this move would help bring down the prices in the market.
Since the beginning of the strike by transporters and truckers, prices of essential items including gas and petroleum products, jumped more than 100 percent, causing problems and worries among common people.
