KABUL (Pajhwok): US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called for an end to the violence, stressing the need for a political settlement to Afghanistan’s conflict.
High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Chairman Abdullah Abdullah held a telephonic conversation with Blinken on Saturday evening, his office said in a statement.
Blinken said his country continued to assess and review the situation in Afghanistan and wanted to accelerate the peace process in order to establish a lasting peace in Afghanistan.
He expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Afghanistan and called for a political solution to end the ongoing problems in the country.
Abdullah thanked the US government for its continued cooperation with Afghanistan and its support for peace efforts and discussions about Doha talks, internal and regional situation.
Abdullah also stressed the importance of regional and international diplomacy for the success of the peace process and achieving durable peace.
