KABUL (Pajhwok): Justice Minister Fazal Ahmad Manavi on Monday termed addressing 5,000 land grabbing cases ‘a tough challenge’ as demanded by the international community during last year’s Geneva Conference.
He said a plan to address the land grab cases had been prepared with core focus on the security of offices, frontline personnel and their work privileges.
Referring to the fact that a just trial was not possible in absence of defence lawyer, he said: “Unfortunately, defence lawyers are not available in some provinces.”
He said the provision of legal services was direly needed and that it was fortunate that the government finally acknowledged that all districts needed legal services for which 670 new posts had been introduced.
Manavi said miseries of the past 50 years caused the loss of national assets and public properties and the government was committed to rehabilitating and reviving them.
The justice minister stressed he institutionalization and enforcement of laws to ensure that cases were settled on the basis of justice.
Referring to cases between state and individuals, he said in the past most of the cases would be decided in the favour of individuals and lately due to the strict approach, cases were now decided in faovur of state.
He said justice was needed to ensure and the government was facing this problem in far-flung districts.
