KABUL (Pajhwok): A special court has sentenced former Commerce and Industries minister Mir Mohammad Amin Farhang to one year in prison and fined him $864,000 million over misuse of authority and embezzlement.
Mohammad Amin Farhang had served as minister of economy, rehabilitation, commerce and investment from 2001 to 2008.
He was impeached by the Wolesi Jirga back in 2008 over unprecedented surge in the prices of gas and petroleum products and removed from the ministry.
In today’s trial, the court heard allegations and counter allegations from both parties and on the basis of available evidence and in line with contemporary criminal laws the court sentenced Farhang to one year in jail and imposed a fine of $864,000 in embezzlement and misuse of authority case.
