KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Chief of the central prison of northern Kunduz province, Col. Arif Tariq, has escaped to an unknown location after the jail’s secretary was arrested over graft charges.

A security official in the main prison told Pajhwok Afghan News that a few days ago National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel arrested the prison’s secretary over corruption charges.

“On Tuesday, the Kunduz police chief wanted to visit the prison but before his arrive, Colonel Arif Tariq fled the jail and switched off his cell phones,” he added.

Kunduz police chief Brigadier General HaqnawazHaqyar confirmed the incident to Pajhwok Afghan News and said Colonel Tariq had escaped to an unknown location.

Haqyar said police had launched a manhunt for Colonel Arif Tariq.
