KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MoCIT) collected 6.1 billion afghanis revenue during the last fiscal year, with the Afghan Telecom connecting hundreds of state and private institutions with fiber optic, an official said on Thursday.

Technology Minister MasoumaKhawari told reporters here that in the last fiscal year, the Afghan Telecom generated over 10 billion afs revenue and transferred 1.5 billion afs to the state revenue.

Khawari said that over 450 schools, 21 Post Offices and 56 other institutions had been connected with the fiber optic.

She said that Salaam Telecommunication Network in the outgoing solar year expanded its network to 1,340 sites in 34 provinces.

According to the technology minister, the ministry was allocated over 1.2 billion afs development budget and it spent nearly 48 percent of the fund.

She said security issues on highways made it hard to transfer technology related equipment to provinces.

Slow-paced procurement, recruitment and contract inking process and the lack of interest by foreign firms to ink contracts were other challenges the ministry faced and urged concerned authorities for help in this regard.
