KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan traders have won contracts worth more than $171 million for selling their agricultural products at an international fair, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Sunday.

The exhibition was held from February 21 to 25 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, where 4,800 companies from different countries, including Afghanistan, showcased their agricultural products.

A statement from the ministry quoted Habibullah Habibi, the director of private sector development, as saying the contracts were for the sale of fresh and dried fruits, nuts, herbs, honey and soft drinks.

Most of the contracts, accouting for $100 million, were inked with Indian firms, according to the official, who said businessmen from the UAE also signed with Afghan traders and exporters deals valued at $27 million.

Businessmen from Saudi Arabia were in third place, concluding $6 million contracts with the Afghans, the ministry added.

In recent years, Afghan businessmen participated in similar exhibitions and signed contracts worth about $100 million with foreign firms.
