KABUL (Pajhwok): Covid-19 fatalities have hit 2.5 million mark across the world, a news report said on Monday.
The virus, which surfaced about a year back in China’s Wuhan province, rapidly spread to around 210 countries in the world.
The pandemic has now been controlled in some countries, but its second wave continues to cause deaths and infections in other parts of the globe.
The US-based John Hopkins University said Covid-19 positive cases had soared to 114 million as of Sunday afternoon.
The university added more than 85 million of those infected had so far recovered, while around 2.5 million losing their lives to the disease.
Over 450,000 people contract Covid-19 on a daily basis while around 7,000 of the infected individuals lose their lives during the period.
According to reports, 29 million people are infected with the virus in the US, 11 million in India and over 10.5 million in Brazil.
The source added 524,000 people in the US, 157,000 in India and 255,000 in Brazil have lost their lives to the virus.
Russia, Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Britain, Italy, Germany, Iran, Turkey and Peru have high numbers of cases and deaths.
In Afghanistan, over 55,733 people have so far been infected and 2,444 other killed. Over 49,000 have recovered from the pandemic.
