DUSHANBE (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirga or lower house speaker Mir Rahman Rahmani on Monday said violence in Afghanistan would escalate if NATO withdrew troops irresponsibly.

Rahmani said this during a meeting with Tajikistani foreign minister Sirodjidin Aslov in Dushanbe on Monday.

Rahmani said the Afghans had been hopeful about peace in their country since a year but the Taliban did not come up with any plans to stop the war and strengthen peace in Afghanistan.

The ongoing war caused destruction and has been worsening with each passing day, Rahmani added.

“If the conflict in Afghanistan intensifies, it would also spread to central Asian countries,” the speaker said, urging regional support for an end to violence and establishment of peace in Afghanistan.

He asked Tajikistani foreign minister to encourage the Taliban to embrace peace and ask countries that support the group to stop empowering the group.

Tajikistani foreign minister, Sirodjidin Aslov said that his country had close friendship with Afghanistan and hoped the relations would be further strengthened in future.

He hoped peace wouldl return to Afghanistan in the near future as stability in the war torn country would have a positive impact on regional countries.

Aslov said that his country was supporting any moves that could lead to development of Afghanistan.

Rahmani traveled to Tajikistan on the head of a parliamentary delegation on Sunday and he is also expected to meet with the president and other senior officials of the neighboring country.
