KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Red Crescent Society on Tuesday signed an agreement with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to continue providing assistance to the conflict-affected people of Afghanistan.

The agreement titled Movement Coordination’ was signed on Tuesday in Kabul.

NilabMubarez, Secretary General of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, Juan Pedro, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Peter Cramer, Head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies signed the agreement of continuing to provide assistance to the Afghan people.

According to the joint statement, the agreement would help carry out joint humanitarian activities and ensuring quality partnership and mutual accountability in achieving affective humanitarian assistance.

Mubariz said the Afghan Red Crescent Society, with its activities in the capital, Kabul and other provinces, frontlines of conflict and communities has created an atmosphere of trust and acceptance among people.

“The Afghan Red Crescent Society is proud to belong to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent movement, which has always stood by the organization and helped it the organization develop, met the needs of the crises-hit people and helped the Afghan people,” she added.

Juan Pedro, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Afghanistan, said however, the pattern of conflict and violence has changed in recent decades but their commitment to supporting civilians and promoting respect for the International humanitarian law stands.

“We are proud of our humanitarian activities and will continue with our humanitarian assistance support of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement,” he added.

Peter Cramer, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the ceremony said, more cooperation and assistance is needed considering the continuous vulnerability including climate change, quantity of intensity and indigence in the country to support the principled activities of this institution and to maximize collective aids throughout the country.

The joint statement said that ICRC and the Afghan Red Crescent society have been working together since 1986 to address the needs of conflict-hit Afghan people.

The source added that the commitment to impartial humanitarian services of the ICRC and the Afghan Red Crescent Society enables the institution to operate in emergencies and provide humanitarian services where others cannot.

The Afghan Red Crescent Society has been active since 1993 and the International Federation of Red Cross has been present in Afghanistan since 1990 and supports the Afghan Red Crescent Society and its humanitarian services in Afghanistan.
