Andarabi: 517 people assassinated last year

KABUL (Pajhwok): The interior minister said on Tuesday that 517 people were assassinated across the country last year and 400 suspects were arrested in connection with sticky landmines in  central capital Kabul.

MassoudAndarabi, addressing a government accountability conference, said that security forces had discovered and defused 2,300 landmines in the country last year and 1300 of the landmines were discovered and defused in Arghandab district of Kandahar on Tuesday.

He said last year, 517 people were assassinated across the country and 400 people were arrested in connection with sticky bombs in Kabul.

He added that traffic department received revenue amounting to 536.8 million afghanis and the passport department received 1.2 billion afghanis last year.

According to Andarabi, more than 250 million afghanis was earned last year from security companies, armored vehicles and weapons licenses.

He said more than 40 kilograms of gold and 761 euros were recovered and seized while being smuggled from Afghanistan to other countries in a year.

He said there were currently 4,000 female police officers in the ANP and that the number would rise to 10,000 by the end of the year.

At least 1, 6288 incidents took place in the past year but 1, 3443 more had been detected and prevented, said Andarabi.
