Former ulema council head gunned down in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a religious scholar in Kabul on Wednesday morning, an official said.

The victim was former chairman of the Kunduz Ulema Council, police spokesman Firdos Faramarz said.

The incident took place in the Jakshan area of the 17th police district of the capital at around 6:00am, the police spokesman added.

No arrest had been made in connection with the murder, Faramarz said. An investigation into the incident is underway.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the murder in Kabul, where targeted attacks have lately spiked.
