AIBAK (Pajhwok): Construction work on a mega mosque was launched on Wednesday in the Hazrat Sultan district of northern Samangan province, an official said.
Mohammad HashemMudaqiq, the Hazrat Sultan district chief, said that the mosque would accommodate 500 worshipers at a time, was being built at a cost of 11 million afghanis.
He said the mosque was being constructed by the Presidential Operations Office in four months under the guidance of the president.
Governor Mohammad DaudKalkani said that the government, in addition to rebuilding development projects, had built holy sites, including mosques.
