KABUL (Pajhwok): Zimbabwe, bowled out for 250, took a 119-run lead over Afghanistan in their first innings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
In their second innings as well, the hosts faltered and cheaply lost four top-order batsmen, according to the cricket website ESPNcricinfo.
Abdul Malik (0), Munir Ahmad (1), Rahmat Shah (0) and Hashmatullah Shaheedi (4) were sent back to the pavilion as a result of superb bowling by the visitors.
Blessing Muzarabani, Victor Nyauchi and Sean Williams put their side in command by bagging one, three and one wickets respectively.
Earlier, Sean Williams smashed his third Test century, second as captain, to propel Zimbabwe to 250. He crossed the milestone 15 minutes after lunch.
Afghanistan’s left-arm spinner Hamza finished with career-best figures of 6 for 75, his second five-wicket haul in Tests.
For the tourists, Williams shared a 75-run seventh-wicket stand with Regis Chakabva, who was brought to the crease in the second over of the day.
With an edge over Afghanistan, Zimbabwe resumed their innings at 135/5. On Tuesday, the tourists bowled remarkably well and bundled out the hosts for 131.
On day one, Blessing and Nyauchi snared seven wickets between themselves, leaving Afghan batsmen groping for runs.
