KABUL (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) supreme leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar on Thursday announced holding a huge anti-government demonstration on Friday and warned of nation-wide protest sif their demands were not addressed.
Hekmatyar said their demonstrations would continue until the existing painful situation — conflict, insecurity, target killings and bloodshed — came to an end.
People in power should refrain from keeping the peace process hostage, and that the people of Afghanistan gave nobody the right to link peace with their personal agenda, he said.
He said the Taliban and the US should remain loyal to Doha agreement and in line with the same agreement a new government should be formed and foreign forces should withdraw from Afghanistan.
He accused the Presidential Palace of violating the agreement with HIA and urged the government to fully implement the agreement by releasing remaining HIA prisoners and repatriating refugees.
“Peace delegation of the government is limited to Presidential Palace and they consider peace against their personal interest,” Hekmayar remarked.
He also demanded the shifting of peace talks venue from Doha and added that talks should not be delayed because civilians and common people in Afghanistan bore the brunt of the situation.
In the past, Hekmatyar had expressed similar views and issued warnings but the government did not pay attention.
