KABUL (Pajhwok): Former vice-president Younus Qanoni on Thursday emphasized on changing the current peace negotiations from two-dimensions to three-dimensions while Sarwar Danish said no plans should be created in absence of the government and on demands of foreigners.

The two made these remarks while addressing a gathering commemorating the death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari, in Kabul on Thursday.

Danish said the political destiny of the Afghan people was only possible through election and seeking alternative ways would plunge the country into crisis.

Mazari was killed by the Taliban in 1995 after inviting him for a political dialogue and threw out his body from a helicopter during fight over Ghazni.

US special envoy for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad during his recent trip to Afghanistan and some regional countries is said to have discussed with Afghan leaders options including a participatory government that includes the Taliban.

Danish said, “Mazari is not an unknown figure now. His dreams are developed in the minds of thousands of humans today.”

He said thoughts of Mazari were represented in today’s republic government. Mazari wanted peace in violent situations. “He would embrace peace delegations with open arms during harsh civil war in the country”.

About the peace process, Danish said no plans should be created in absentia of the government and against national interest or based only on the demands of foreigners.

“Any plans if created should protect the political system and continuation of current constitution of the country,” he said, adding that the idea of an interim government was meant a backward step and collapse of the current government.

“The best mechanism for a stable peace is a just partnership of all sides including the Taliban in the republic system and conduct of elections, political destiny of the people is only possible with elections, no any other ways, the country would plunge into crisis without elections…” he added.

Danish said peace would be meaningless if it was unilateral and such peace would only mean surrender.

Haji Mohammad Muhaqiq, an advisor to the president and leader of Hezb-i-Wahdat party, talking to the ceremony, said that they did not want peace by losing all the achievements and values.

He said that they supported a peace which could protect the values of people and the current government.

“A dignified and permanent peace is important as the Afghan people want a peace with honor and protection of the country’s current system”, he added.

Younus Qanoni, a former vice president and member of Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan, said, “We want a just peace so all the people can see themselves in it, if the peace is just an excuse for allegiance then it is not a peace, but start of another war.”

He emphasized on the change of current peace program’s structure and said that peace had a clear definition which should bring justice and permanent stability.

“The government and the Taliban are two sides to the conflict, but the people are also a side and should not be forgotten, so we want the peace efforts should be changed from two sides to a triangle,” Qanoni added.

He said that the people should know about developments in negotiations and what peace meant to them.

Most of today’s participants of the gathering stressed on protection of current government and achievements.
