KABUL (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead prosecutor Mirwais Samadi in the 5th police district of Kabul on Monday, an official said.

Police spokesman Firdos Faramarz told Pajhwok Afghan News Sarmadi was shot dead on his way to office at around 8:20am in Company area.

Faramarz did not provide further details of the incident but a source revealed Samadi was a civilian prosecutor for central Maidan Wardak province.

Mohammad Bashir, a resident of Kabul, confirmed the incident and said people were targeted in the fifth police district daily over the years.

He blamed the government and security organs, especially police, for their inefficiency and corruption. The authorities had failed to take measures to prevent such incidents, he alleged.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the murder.

On Sunday, unidentified gunmen killed a resident of Maidan Wardak province, Javed, in the same area of the capital.

Lately, targeted killings have spiked in Kabul. There have been no claims of responsibility for most of these incidents.
