KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan and Turkey on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement on agriculture and livestock development.

The agriculture ministries of Afghanistan and Turkey signed the agreement on technical, educational and economical areas, a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) said.

The agreement was signed between Afghan agriculture minister Anwarul Haq Ahadi and Turkish agriculture and forestry management minister, Bekir Pakdemirli in Ankara.

The agreement includes plants protection, livestock and breeding, animal health, fish farming, mechanizing agriculture, irrigation and researches, agricultural training and food industry, the statement added.

Ahadi said Afghanistan and Turkey had historic relations which recently reached a hundred years. Both the countries cooperated with each other in various areas, he added.

He said that the agreement was a great start for strengthening cooperation and coordination among the two countries.

“The content of the agreement is great and we want to implement it properly. Our colleagues in the MAIL would work on it,” he said.

Turkish agriculture and forestry minister, Bekir Pakdemirli talking in the meeting said that agriculture was a major sector in both countries and the agreement was a great start for sharing information and experiences.

The statement concluded that the agreement was prepared in 10 articles by agriculture teams of the two countries before it was signed.
