Deborah to meet peace negotiators in Doha today

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Deborah Lyons is scheduled to arrive in Doha on today (Tuesday).

Radio Pakistan reported the UN diplomat would meet Afghan government and Taliban representatives amid a renewed push for peace in Afghanistan.

The state-controlled radio quoted unnamed sources as saying Deborah was also expected to meet US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and Qatari officials.

Last week, the US envoy suggested shaking up the stalled peace parleys in Doha and floated a proposal for an interim government in Kabul a suggestion that was instantly rejected by President Ashraf Ghani and the Taliban.
