KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Wednesday announced launching “National Seedling Campaign” to plant 27 million seedlings.
In a statement MAIL said March 10 was the National Plantation Day and tree plantation has been started in capital Kabul and all provinces of Afghanistan.
The statement quoted deputy minister of Agriculture, Shir Shah Amiri, as saying “over 26.7m fruitful, non-fruitful and ornamental plants have been provided to this campaign and different departments would plant these saplings”.
The statement added forest management would receive 2,468,556 saplings, partner institutions 1,015,049 plants, villagers associations 18,181,414 saplings, share of individuals is 5,073,628 seedlings and Kabul production farms would receive 247,819 saplings.
Amiri said Kabul, Herat, Bamiyan, Badghis, Nangarhar and Helmand were among leading provinces in terms of production of saplings.
