Qatari diplomat Qahtani receives top UN award

KABUL (Pajhwok):  Qatari diplomat Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani has received the United Nations Best Negotiator Award for 2020, says a media report.

Qahtani, special envoy of the foreign minister for counterterrorism and mediation in conflict resolution, was presented the award in recognition of his role in settling disputes and establishing peace in the world.

Qatar News Agency (QNA) Qahtani as expressing his delight and pride on receiving this prestigious award. He called the award an addition to the successes of Qatar in the field of mediation and conflict resolution.

Qahtani underlined the importance of continuous learning and training on cultural features and the readiness for change, adaptation and flexibility in light of new developments.

He called for adopting methods and skills in mediation and negotiations and asked those who wanted to be culturally competent mediators not to panic, to be patient, vigilant and openness in thinking.

Conflicts among cultures were risky and in most cases removing such differences took a long time, he explained, saying cultural differences could play a decisive role in the outcome of mediation and negotiations.
