PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s army chief and spymaster have participated in regional consultations on the snail-paced Afghan peace process.
Gen. Qamar Bajwa and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence Lt Gen Faiz Hameed attended the session in Bahrain, the army’s media wing said on Wednesday.
“Current developments in the Afghan peace process, border security and necessary steps to facilitate an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process were discussed,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said:
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, was part of US-led international efforts to speed up the Afghan peace process. Key regional players attended the huddle.
The Biden administration, meanwhile, is pushing for a UN-led meeting of foreign ministers and envoys from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Indiaand the US to develop a unified approach on supportfor Afghan peace efforts.
Gen Bajwa also met Bahrain National Guard Commander Field Marshal Mohammed Bin Isa Al Khalifa and National Security Adviser Maj Gen Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The regional security situation and issues of common interest came under discussion at the meetings.
