KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has voiced its deep concern over the critical situation of Afghan journalists.
In a statement, the global watchdog asked the Afghan government to guarantee the safety of journalists faced with security threats.
More than 300 female journalists are said to have quit their jobs in recent months due to security concerns, including the killing of women media workers.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is deeply concerned over the critical situation of Afghan journalists and calls on the Afghan government to guarantee their safety.
Several female media professionals have left the country because of threats and harassment, according to the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee.
On March 2, three female media workers from Enikass TV were gunned down by unknown assailants in the eastern city of Jalalabad.
IFJ General Secretary Anthony Bellanger said: “The Afghanistan government must intensify its efforts to protect journalists who risk their lives every day to keep the country informed.
“The IFJ is deeply worried about the recent wave of violence towards female journalists, which is driving them out of the profession over security fears,” he concluded.
