KABUL (Pajhwok): Residents of central Uruzgan province say insider’s attacks and resulting casualties in police forces have increased in the province.
Taliban men infiltrating police have caused casualties to tens of policemen, with their arms taken away in Tirinkot, the capital city of Uruzgan.
Civil society activist, AbdulHadiAsakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that lately insider’s attacks had spiked in police ranks. He said, Talibanwere targeting security personnel not only in face to face clashes but also through insider’s attacks.
Former head of Uruzgan provincial council, AmanullahHotaki told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban insider attacks not only caused casualties but also resulted in collapse of government check-points.
He said insider attacks caused more casualties than face to face clashes and the tactic proved to be efficient for the rebels. Besides presence of Taliban in police ranks, some provincial security officials have been arrested over their alleged links with the Taliban.
Hamidullah, a local resident, acknowledging the threat, said Ministry of Interior (MoI) must implement techniques which could prevent admission of Taliban-influenced individuals in police ranks.
Colonel Ali Ahmad Azayi, chief of Uruzgan police, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were trying to prevent insider attacks.
“If there is a suspect, we remove him and refer him to the law.”
He added recently two Taliban infiltrators were identified and they referred to the law.
The police chief said police have been trying to use techniques to prevent Taliban infiltrators from joining police force.
It is worth mentioning Taliban infiltrators have been conducting insider attacks not only in police check-points but also in other organs.
