KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior prosecutor has been shot dead in eastern Paktia province, confirms Governor Halim Fidaee.
Mohammad Hassanyar was gunned down by unidentified attackers in Gardez, the provincial capital, on Thursday night, the governor said.
With an investigation into the incident underway, no group so far has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Fidaee added he had directed police and intelligence officials to investigate the shooting and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Targeted killings have spiked across the country in recent months.
