KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan and Iran have voiced their concerns at the presence of the Islamic State (Daesh) terrorist group in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s special representative for Mohammad Sadiq and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed their concerns at a meeting in Tehran.

While supporting efforts for peace in Afghanistan, both sides viewed Daesh as a serious threat to regional peace and security, IRNA reported

Araghchi said his country supported peace being a fundamental right of the Afghan people. He also backed efforts to preserve Afghanistan’s achievements of the past two decades.

The visiting diplomat underlined enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Iran on bringing permanent peace and stability to the war-devastated country.

Sadiq is in Tehran at the head of a delegation for regional consultations. He is due to meet Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on fresh developments in Afghanistan.
