US peace proposal is incomplete, says Wali Massoud

KABUL (Pajhwok): Ahmad Wali Massoud, head of Massoud Foundation, on Thursday said the new US proposal for Afghan peace process was incomplete, calling for a review of the proposal.

Massoud told a press conference here that some politicians made hard efforts for peace in Afghanistan over the last two decades, but peace was yet to be achieved.

He said discussions about peace were sporadic but no side listened to the demands of Afghan public.

“The US proposal for Afghan peace is not complete and it requires to be reviewed so the role of the Afghan people is inclusively represented in it”, he said.

“Afghanistan peace process is not inclusive, we cannot limit a major peace process to republic or Emirate, because here are people, women, youths and security forces who should be included in it…” he added.

Massoud said that the peace process should not be monopolized by figures who failed to establish it over the last two decades and the leadership of a transitional period should be given to individuals enjoying public trust and represent all ethnic groups of the country.

Sayed Hussain Alami, former refugees and repatriation minister, talking to the conference also said that intra-Afghan talks in Doha still lacked agenda.

He called the Afghan government’s negotiating team as unsuccessful and said that failure of the government’s team was the reason the US presented a new peace plan.

About Moscow and Turkey conferences, he said, “These conferences mean others shall decide our fate. If the views and demands of the Afghan people are not considered, it would harden the way for peace.”

Alami said that an inclusive peace process should be pursued by academic and social figures who should create understanding between warring sides, and the negotiating team should help establish peace acceptable to all.
