KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA) on Saturday said 25 million fruit bearing and non-fruit saplings were being planted across the country.
Shah Zaman Maiwandi, head of NEPA, in a meeting with NEPA officials and deputy Mayor of Kabul at the Government Media Center, said since the beginning of the tree plantation campaign on March 11 this year, more than 2.8m saplings had been planted in the country.
He said necessary coordination existed between relevant departments in launching the plantation campaigns and by the end of the season, 25m fruitful and non-fruitful trees and plants would be cultivated throughout the country.
The NEPA head thanked partner ministries especially the members of the Sapling Planting Coordination Committee as well as religious scholars, the private sector, civil society activists and all sections of the society for their contribution to the campaign.
He urged government agencies who had not yet begun planting saplings to soon implement practical measures to begin the campaign.
Deputy Kabul Mayor, Mahtab Alami also told reporters that over 146,000 saplings have been planted in different parts of Kabul since the beginning of the plantation campaign.
He added the campaign would continue in all areas of Kabul until April, 28 2021.
