PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Nawroz festival has been celebrated across Pakistan’s northwestern region of Gilgit-Baltistan with traditional zeal.
Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan, his cabinet members, opposition leaders and other officials attended the festival on Sunday.
Functions marking the Afghan new year were held in Gilgit, Hunza-Nagar, Ghizer, Astore, Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang and Ghancha districts.
The main Jashn-i-Nauroz function was held at the Municipal Ground in Skardu, with Chief Minister Khurshid and Senior Minister Raja Zakirya and many locals in attendance.
Another function was organised in the Galmit area of Hunza, in which Frontier Corps Commander Maj Gen Jawad Ahmed Qazi, local officials and residents took part.
Traditional dances were performed on music, delicious dishes offered and a spring tree plantation drive launched in the area.
