MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Taliban have been monitoring schools in majority of insecure districts of northern Balkh province, an official said on Tuesday.
Encouraging families to send their children to school, Balkh Governor Mohammad Farhad Azeemi acknowledged the existing problems and issues in the education sector but stressed that an opportunity was still available for education and families should educate their children.
“We accept that in some areas the Taliban are monitoring schools and this has caused problems for schools to achieve the targets,” he said.
He said confirmed receiving complaints regarding corruption in the appointment of teachers and use of reference.
Provincial Council Head Dr.AfzalHadid also encouraged parents to send their children to schools and said problems hampered education system in Balkh.
According to Azeemi, the lack of text books, professional teachers and corruption are some of the elements that plague the education system.
