KABUL (Pajhwok): At a mass wedding, sponsored by a charitable organisation, as many as 140 couples have tied the knot in Kabul.
While lauding the step, families participating in the ceremony urged the nation to help the poor people get married, a TV channel reported.
The mass wedding accounted for about 4.2 million afghanis, said Assadullah Yousufi, the organiser of Friday’s ceremony.
Ariana News quoted him as saying the objective behind the initiative was to whittle down the high cost of wedding parties in an impoverished country.
He said: “The economic situation has become worse. On the other hand, such events are a positive move towards supporting people’s economy.”
