LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 11 security personnel including the police chief for the Sangeen district of southern Helmand province have been killed in a Taliban attack.
A security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed the 611th battalion of the district.
He said Abdul Hamid Sarwari, police chief for the district, was killed along with 10 other security personnel in the overnight assault.
Helmand police spokesman Mohammad Zaman Hamdard confirmed the attack. He said at least 15 militants were also killed and seven others wounded.
Hamdard said the police chief for Sangeen district was killed along with two others while two more were wounded.
The Taliban have not yet commented about the assault.
