KABUL (Pajhwok): Civilians suffered casualties in an Afghan Special Forces operation in the Yaqoubi Sabarayu district of southeastern Khost province, local residents claimed on Sunday.
District Chief Mohammad Akbar Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Afghan forces launched an operation against the Taliban in the Zambar locality.
He said eight civilians had been killed and nine others injured in the operation. He said the identity of the dead and injured was not yet known.
He said a large quantity of weapons, landmines, remote controls, motorcycles and other military equipment were recovered and dismantled by the security forces.
He said a woman and two children also got killed as a result of a blast in the area where the operation was conducted.
Deputy Police Chief NoorullahStanikzai said a woman and a child were killed in a blast when they tried to hide from security forces.
Afghan Special Forces in a statement said they launched a clearing operation in the Sabarayo district as per people’s demand and the operation would continue.
The Taliban in a statement claimed that 20 civilians, including children, had been killed in the operation in Sabarayo district.
