FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Protesters in western Ghor province on Monday wrapped up their sit-in tent after the government introduced a new governor to the province.

For nearly a month, a number of Ghor residents have been protesting against increasing insecurity under the governor Noor Mohammad Kuhnaward.

They accused the governor of failing to ensure security and fueling prejudice among the residents.

The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on Sunday announced that Abdul ZahirFaizZada has been appointed as  new governor for Ghor province in accordance with their proposal and the president’s approval.

The protesters today removed their sit-in tent with the appointment of the new governor and hailed the government’s response to their demand.

ShoaibullahKhalili, a protestor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they removed the tent because the government met their demand and removed Kohnaward from his post as governor of Ghor.

He hoped the new governor would be able to ensure security in the province.

Khalili said they would cooperate with the new governor in ensuring security and social situation in the province.

ZulmaiKhalili, the provincial spokesman, said outgoing governor Noor Mohammad left for Kabul today noon, adding the new governor, AbdulZaherFaizZada would begin his job on Tuesday.

Noor Mohammad Kohnaward took over as governor of the province nearly a year ago, having previously served as provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief of Ghor province.
