‘Afghanistan can store 75 billion cubic meter water’

KABUL (Pajhwok): Only 45 percent of Afghanistan’s population has access to clean drinking water at a time when 55 billion cubic metres water of the country flows to neighouring countries without any charges.

This was stated at a gathering at Kabul University organized to spread awareness among people about the importance of water management.

Student Affairs Director Faisal Amin said: “We are planning master degree program on water management in Kabul University.”

Kabul University Teacher Prof. Abdul QayyoumKarim said that Afghanistan has the capacity to store 75 billion cubic metres water.

“Afghanistan only stores 20 billion cubic meter water and the remaining is wasted and flow to the neighbours,” he said.

He said 45.5 percent people in Afghanistan have access to clean drinking water, adding if water storages are built more people will have access to clean drinking water.

University student SharifullahKarimi said currently 55 nations in the world have disputes over water and Afghanistan should be protected from these disputes.
