HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Seventy people have been tested positive with coronavirus last month in western Herat province compared to 46 people tested positive for the respiratory virus the previous month, an official said Saturday.
Public Health Department Spokesperson Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai said the figures showed 40 percent surge in the number of coronavirus patient.
He termed the spread of new coronavirus variant a threat and added the health condition of 15 patients was terrible while their samples had been transferred to Kabul to test and find if it is the new English variant.
“We have 15 patients in our hospital who have strong symptoms of coronavirus. We sent their samples to Kabul to find the result,” he added.
Public Health Director Abdul Hakim Tamanna on his facebook page warned people of the spread of new English variant of coronavirus and advised vaccination to people above the age of 50.
Meanwhile some residents of Herat said that insecurity has overcome coronavirus crisis in the country and people are careless in the wake of the pandemic.
It is worth mentioning that 65,676 people have tested positive for coronavirus nationwide in which 2,497 have died and thousands others recovered.
