Heavy snowfall closes Salang highway for cargo vehicles

CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): The Salang highway that links Kabul with several northern provinces was closed for cargo vehicles on Sunday due to heavy snowfall and storms, an official said.

The Salang Pass Department of Preservation and Maintenance said there was heavy snowfall and storms in the northern part of Salang.

A statement from the department said the snowfall started at around 1am and the southern part of Salang was also witnessing snowfalls. According to the weather forecast, the snowfall may continue for the next 24 hours.

The Salang pass was closed for cargo vehicles at around 10am in order to prevent traffic accidents and passenger casualties.
