Gardez municipality employee arrested over bribe charges

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): An employee of municipality has been arrested over bribery charges in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Monday.

Noor Mohammad Abid, the governor’s spokesman, said that Eng. Sifatullah employee of engineering department of Gardez municipality was arrested by a joint team of Attorney General Office (AGO).

However, Abid did not specify the amount of money the suspected arrested for.

Syed Hassan Paktiawal, a member of the Wolesi Jirga from Paktia, said he filed a complaint to AGO against Eng. Sifatullah after receiving complaint from one of his clients.

He said the detainee had demanded $15,000 in bribe for converting a residential market into a commercial. Paktiawal added his client provided video and other related documents.

Eng. Sifatullah was currently in the custody of a joint delegation of the AGO.

Sayed Anbar Pacha, head of the appellant prosecutor office, confirmed the report that an employee of Gardez municipality had been arrested and under investigation.

However, residents of Paktia are complaining about the corruption in engineering and property departments of Gardez municipality.
