Key Haqqani network member arrested in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested the mastermind behind major terrorist attacks including one on Vice President AmrullahSaleh’s office in Kabul, the spy service said in a statement on Monday.

The statement issued by the National Directorate of Security said that Obaidullah known as Farooq, Bilal and Ibrahim had joined the Haqqani Network (HN) in Peshawar in 2017.

The statement claimed the first target of detained Haqqani Network man was Abdul JabbarQahraman but since he was killed in a separate attack, he canceled his plot.

He returned to Peshawar where he was directed by MaulviNaik Mohammad, in-charge of Haqqani Network subversive activities, to conduct a suicide blast on Vice President AmrullahSaleh.

In the time of attack on Saleh, the statement said, Obaidullah was responsible for monitoring foreigners and renowned Afghan leaders’ vehicles.

Lately he was planning attack on civil society activist SeelaiGhafari but he was detected by NDS personnel and as a result of security forces operation he was arrested from the third police district of Kabul.
