4 ALP personnel among 13 killed in Nangarhar clashes

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel and nine Taliban have been killed and several others wounded as a result of clashes in eastern Nangarhar province, a source said on Tuesday.

A provincial official, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban stormed at a security check-post in the Ghazi Baba area of Surkhrod district on Monday night.

He added four ALP members were killed in the incident, with Taliban taking away their weapons.

Asked about the Taliban attack, police spokesman Farid Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was unaware of the clash.

On the other hand, Taliban confirmed the clash. The movement’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the fighters attacked two check-posts in the area killing six ALP men.

Separately, 13 Taliban militants suffered casualties in Khogyani district, the governor’s office said in a statement.

The security forces and Taliban clashed in the Nakarkhel area of Khogyani district, where nine rebels were killed and four others wounded.

The statement confirmed two government personnel were slightly lightly wounded in the firefight.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
